cholarships for Kenya.
Each year, there are two Scholarships available in Kenya to enable outstanding students - chosen on the basis of exceptional intellect, character, leadership, and commitment to service - to study at the University of Oxford.
Rhodes Scholars from Kenya have pursued a variety of careers in public service, academia, business, law, and medicine, amongst others.  Many have achieved notable distinction, including:
Elchi Nowrojee (Kenya & St Antony’s 1992), who is Co-Head of Legal - Americas for the Asset Management division of Credit Suisse, where he has represented a number of clients investing in African companies, forming African investment funds and working with other Africa-related businesses.  He is also a member of the Sub-Committee on Africa of the Advisory Committee of the Cyrus R. Vance Centre for International Justice and former Chair of the Committee on African Affairs of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
Njonjo Mue (Kenya & Jesus 1991), who is Deputy Director of the Africa Program of the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ), an international non-profit organization which works to help societies in transition address legacies of massive human rights violations and build civic trust in state institutions as protectors of human rights. An advocate of the high court of Kenya, he previously served as the Head of ICTJ's Kenya office and the Head of Advocacy at the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights. He sits on the board of the Kenya Section of the International Commission of Jurists and is a member of the Kenya Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee.
Adhiambo Odaga (Kenya & St Antony's 1986), who is the Ford Foundation’s Director, Pan African Program and Representative for West Africa based in Lagos, Nigeria.  In this capacity she oversees grant-making focused on building local capacity in the areas of economic development, human rights, governance, reproductive health and culture.   She is also a board member of Trust Africa, an independent foundation that strives to secure the conditions for democratic governance and equitable development across Africa, and a member of the Policy and Monitoring Committee of Nigeria’s National Council of Privatization.

When do I apply for scholarships?

That depends on each scholarship’s deadline.

Some deadlines are as early as a year before college starts, so if you’re in high school now, you should be researching and applying for scholarships during the summer between your junior and senior years. But if you've missed that window, don’t give up! Look at scholarship information to see which ones you can still apply for now.

What kinds of scholarships are available ? 2014

Some scholarships for college You earn them by meeting or exceeding certain standards set by the scholarship-giver. Merit scholarships might be awarded based on academic achievement or on a combination of academics and a special talent, trait, or interest. Other scholarships are based on financial need.
Many scholarships are geared toward particular groups of people; for instance, there are scholarships for women or high school seniors. And some are available because of where you or your parent work, or because you come from a certain background .
A scholarship might cover the entire cost of your tuition, or it might be a one-time award of a few hundred dollars. Either way, it’s worth applying for, because it’ll help reduce the cost of your education.

$1,000 Weekly Scholarship any one can win scholarship

Even better than once-a-month is once-a-week. Granted, the Zinch.com weekly scholarship is not as simple as merely filling out basic information about yourself, it’s almost that simple.

All U.S. high schoolers and college students are eligible for this $1,000 scholarship. All it requires is filling out a short form about yourself and answering an unusual question in 280 characters or less (similar to the Twitter-standard of characters). The question changes weekly. This week’s question, for example, is: “Greek historian Plutarch once wrote, The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled. Explain what that quote means to you.”
You can apply every week, once a week. Have fun with it.

financial Scholarships 2014

Scholarships and financial 2014 support 2014

Student sitting at a window writing
Scholarships, grants, bursaries, financial awards, loans… there are many financial support options for international students who wish to study on a UK course. Here are some tips for you:
  • On this Education UK website, you can search through thousands of scholarships using the Find your UK education tool at the top of this page. Choose 'Scholarships' from the menu, then select your subject area. This tool doesn't list all UK scholarships, but it is an excellent place to start.
  • Demand for scholarships is always greater than supply. To maximize your chances, apply as early as you can.
  • In addition, have a look at the websites for the schools, colleges and universities you are interested in. They may have a scheme that is not listed here.
  • Depending on your nationality, you may be eligible for a loan or financial support from the UK government. Visit the UKCISA website for more details.

Evaluating costs

Even with financial support, it is likely that you will have to pay some costs yourself. You may have to pay for travel, accommodation and part of the course fee yourself. Find out what is and isn’t covered by your scholarship or financial support scheme.

Financial difficulties

The right time to look for financial support is before you enrol on your course. It can be very hard to find funding, particularly mid-way through the academic year.
If you experience financial difficulties during your course, please visit UKCISA’s website. They offer lots of detailed information and a student advice telephone service.
Also, talk to staff at your school, college or university – for example, your student welfare or Students' Union officers.
