Swank Traveling Fellowship - $2,000

Purpose:
Awarded for the study of craft in architecture; to research, develop and disseminate knowledge relating to the integration of craft and craftsmanship into the built environment. Recent awardees have studied the use of local construction techniques in primary school design in India and adobe construction in Urubamba Valley in Peru.
Eligibility:
4th, 5th, 6th year student, or recent graduate of an accredited architecture program.

McDermott Traveling Fellowship - $2,000

Purpose:
Awarded for traveling studies in architecture; to research, develop, and disseminate knowledge of the built environment. Past projects have included trips to Spain to study Moorish architecture and to Switzerland to study the works of Peter Zumthor.
Eligibility:
4th, 5th, 6th year student, or recent graduate of an accredited architecture program.

APA Scholarship Program

Jim Boyce Memorial Scholarship - Deadline March 31, 2013 - EXTENDED UNTIL APRIL 30TH!
The Jim Boyce Memorial Scholarship was established by the Texas Registered Accessibility Specialist Association (TRASA) now the Accessibility Professionals Association (APA) to honor and recognize our friend and colleague Jim Boyce. Jim was formerly a Plan Review Manager with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) and was one of the drafters of the Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS), in 1994. When Jim retired from TDLR, he became a Registered Accessibility Specialist and was among the Charter Members of TRASA (now APA). The success of TRASA (now APA) is in large part due to Jim’s leadership in its earlier years.

The Nancy Larson Foundation College Scholarship

The Nancy Larson Foundation, Inc. is proud to sponsor scholarships for college students studying to become elementary school teachers.

Juniors, seniors and graduate students who have declared an elementary education major are invited to submit a personal story about what three traits they believe they have that will make them an excellent teacher. Applicants will also be asked to list community service activities and experiences they have had working with children. Fill out the form at the bottom of this page to apply.

The Nancy Larson Foundation, Inc. was established by Nancy Larson to encourage and support prospective teachers. Larson is the author of the nationally successful Saxon Math K–4.

She formed Nancy Larson Publishers, Inc. in 2004 with the goal of providing engaging and challenging programs in content areas beyond mathematics. The company’s first release is the fun and interactive Nancy Larson ® Science K, 1, 2, 3, and 4 program. Science 5 is being developed.
The official scholarship form and rules will be posted when submissions are open this fall.

Conditional Grant Program

  • be a Texas resident eligible to work in the U.S.,
  • have a minimum high school grade point average of 3.00 on a four-point scale, or
    • a minimum score of 900 on the SAT or
    • a minimum score of 21 on the ACT,
  • plan to attend an accredited four-year Texas public college or university as a full-time student (minimum 12 semester hours),
  • declare an intent to seek a four-year degree in civil engineering or a department approved operational business discipline,
  • agree to work for TxDOT for two years immediately following graduation, and
  • not be more than 30 days delinquent in providing child support under a court order or written repayment plan.
Students already enrolled in an undergraduate program are eligible if they meet income requirements and:
  • are Texas residents eligible to work in the U.S.,
  • have a minimum overall GPA of 2.50 on a four-point scale,
  • attend or have enrolled at an accredited four-year Texas public college or university and maintain a minimum of 12 semester hours,
  • declare or intend to declare a major in civil engineering or a department approved operational business discipline,
  • agree to work for TxDOT for two years immediately after graduation,
  • are not more than 30 days delinquent in providing child support under a court order or written repayment plan, and
  • are not currently repaying TxDOT for a previously awarded conditional grant.
Economically Disadvantaged Eligibility Criteria Plan Year 2013 - 2014
The income level guidelines below are used to determine if a family is considered economically disadvantaged.
The figures shown under family size and income level represent amounts equal to 225% of the income amounts established by the U.S. Census Bureau for determining poverty status. The poverty guidelines are based on data listed in the Federal Register, effective January 23, 2013.

Scholarships and Prizes

Eligibility: IEEE is offering grants to both students and faculty mentors to help with graduate and capstone design projects with an industry standards component.* 

IEEE will publish the results as a student application paper.
Requirements:
Student(s) beginning a design or development project will submit an abstract summary describing the project, which includes:
  • a summary of the project goal (i.e., what are you trying to build?);
  • an understanding of what standards are being considered to achieve the project goal;
  • a declaration of intention to submit an application paper for publication by the IEEE upon completion of the project;
  • a statement of endorsement from a faculty mentor must be included.
