Important To Seek College Scholarships 2014 - 2015

(NAPSI)—While paying for college can be a challenge, for many students, thousands of dollars in scholarships are available each year. In fact, according to a national study by Ipsos, more families use grants and scholarships to fund college than any other source of funding.
Why To Find Scholarships
After all, scholarships are “free money” that doesn’t need to be repaid, which means fewer out-of-pocket costs and the potential to graduate with less student debt.
Where To Find Scholarships
A common misconception about scholarships is that they are meant only for class valedictorians or star athletes. In reality, there are thousands of different scholarships available for students with all types of skills and hobbies. Organizations that offer scholarships can include:
• Employers
• Companies
• High schools and colleges
• Religious groups
• Professional associations
• Foundations and nonprofit organizations.
There are even such fun and unique scholarships as the “Stuck at Prom” Scholarship Contest by Duck brand, awarding students with the most creative duct tape prom outfit.
Here’s another useful fact: Students need not wait till their senior year in high school; younger students should research scholarships and educate themselves on the requirements. Students will be most successful searching for scholarships if they start early, stay focused and do their research.
Also, it’s important to remember to apply for a scholarship for every year you plan to attend college.
How to Find Scholarships
Families can research scholarships online and through their school. Another great resource is the free scholarship search tool at www.SallieMae.com/ScholarshipSearch. That database represents over 3 million scholarships totaling $16 billion.

GPA Isn’t Everything Scholarship

If your GPA is sinking faster than the Titanic, this may be the perfect scholarship for you. One lucky winner will receive $1,000 from Cappex for simply completing the online application and answering a few questions. Just be sure to apply before March 31, if you want to win.

Applicants must also maintain a grade point average of 2.7 and contribute at least 25 hours of community service in order to be eligible.

RMHC is the official foundation of McDonald's Corporation, and their mission is to create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children. Since 1985, more than $48 million in scholarships have been awarded to extend educational support to students in financial need.

Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of their applications, interviews and participation in Selection Weekend activities.

Recipients can use the funds to pay for tuition, fees, books, room and board, computers, health insurance, and other college-related expenses at an accredited four-year college or university of their choice within the United States. Any field of study can be chosen.

Are jobs on campus or off campus? See more ....

Both. If you work on campus, you’ll usually work for your school. If you work off campus, your employer will usually be a private nonprofit organization or a public agency, and the work performed must be in the public interest.
Some schools might have agreements with private for-profit employers for work-study jobs. These jobs must be relevant to your course of study (to the maximum extent possible). If you attend a proprietary school (i.e., a for-profit institution), there may be further restrictions on the types of jobs you can be assigned.

The Talbots Scholarship Program For Women

The scholarship program focuses on helping women receive a college degree later in life. The age range of women who have been helped through the program varies from 20's to 60's.

More than 600 women have been able to go to college with the help of the Talbots Scholarship Program. The program has awarded over $1.6 million in scholarships since it began in 1997.

2014 Bill Gates Scholars Program 2014

Every year, the Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program selects 1,000 talented minority students to receive a good-through-graduation scholarship to use at any college or university of their choice. The program provides scholars with personal and professional development through our leadership programs along with academic support throughout their college career.
Administered by the United Negro College Fund and accessible through ScholarshipsOnline.org, the program was initially funded by a $1 billion grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Since 1999, it has funded the education of more than 16,000 students, awarding them more than $614 million dollars to pay for tuition, fees, books and housing.
Individuals selected as Gates Scholars will receive funds in an amount to be determined based on their financial need. The amount determined will be based on the cost of tuition, fees, books and living expenses for the 2013-2014 academic year, as well as the availability of grants and other scholarships reported on the financial aid award letter. The average scholarship award in the 2000-2010 academic years was $11,000 per student.
The deadline for submission is January 14, 2014.

Scholarships for Foreigners - study in poland 2014 - 2015 --- Scholarships poland 2014 - 2015

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education sets from time to time a quota of scholarships for persons undergoing education in Poland under international agreements or under decision of the minister responsible for higher education. Foreign students’ scholarship applications falling within the quota are transmitted by Polish consular/diplomatic missions to the Bureau for Academic Recognition and International Exchange. From there, the applications are reviewed by the Bureau’s Section for Recruitment and Education of Foreigners in Poland. The final decision is taken by the Minister of Science and Higher Education.

Scholarships under inter-school agreements
Some Polish and foreign higher education institutions have agreements on temporary exchange of students and academic and research staff. In each case the HEIs involved agree the rules for granting scholarships. A foreign student seeking a scholarship in Poland must meet specific inter-school exchange requirements. Some HEIs have their own scholarship programmes.
European Union scholarships
You can also come to Poland on one of European Union programmes in which Polish HEIs are actively involved, in particular the SOCRATES educational programme which creates opportunities for cooperation at all levels and in various fields of education.
ERASMUS, a component of the SOCRATES programme targeted at higher education institutions, coordinates the exchange of students. Information on this subject is available at national SOCRATES websites.
TEMPUS, a European-Union developed programme in support of international cooperation of higher education institutions targeted at Central and East European countries, is worth noting in this context.
The LEONARDO DA VINCI programme provides financing support for student vocational training schemes and for the development of innovative training or educational programmes or teaching materials. This programme is targeted at young people in initial vocational training.

Culinary Scholarships - Culinary Grants : The Reluctant Gourmet

Bleu Is doing what you love and loving you what you do. It’s going all in and never stopping until you’ve reached your goals. Take advantage of grant and scholarship opportunities to help you get there. These are a good source of funding as you prepare for your training.
Check out the scholarships and grants offered by Le Cordon Bleu to qualified students and veterans. Below are a few offered. Check with your campus to inquire about state and campus specific scholarships offered. Financial aid is available for those who qualify, so contact our financial aid representatives to help you determine which scholarships you may be eligible for. And don’t forget to check out other scholarships offered by external sources – a few are listed below.

The BLEU Grant

Le Cordon Bleu offers a grant to students who demonstrate financial need and are currently enrolled in a ground campus program.
Le Cordon Bleu Colleges of Culinary Arts offer institutional grants to students who have financial need, as determined by the federally-calculated Expected Family Contribution (EFC), and are enrolled in one the following programs: Certificate/ Diploma in Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts, Certificate/ Diploma in Le Cordon Bleu Pâtisserie and Baking, Associate in Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts, Associate in Le Cordon Bleu Pâtisserie and Baking.
Grants range from $50 to $7,618 per student per year and are renewable for students who continue to demonstrate need in subsequent academic years. Students will be considered for the grant upon completion of the admissions application process and the financial aid application process, including the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The BLEU Grant does not supplant the student’s eligibility for a Federal Pell Grant and cannot be combined with any other Le Cordon Bleu grant or scholarship. If a student receives supplemental funding after the BLEU Grant has been awarded, the BLEU grant may be reduced based off of need calculations. BLEU Grant recipients must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress as outlined in the campus catalog to remain eligible for the grant.
The College makes available a limited amount of money each year for such grants. Once it is determined that available funding is exhausted, grants will not be available to otherwise eligible students.

Culinary Scholarships - Scholarships By Major

Culinary Grants and Scholarships and the organizations that award them.
I used to have a list of organizations that offer scholarships, grants and financial aid to students thinking of attending culinary school. Since I am now in association with GatewayGourmet.com, I decided the list would be better served over on that site. There are lots of changes to the list and it’s much easier to maintain just one list rather than two.
It makes much more sense to have the culinary and hospitalty financial aid at GatewayGourmet because that’s where all the schools are now listed. If you are thinking of attending culinary school, baking/pastry school or a hospitality management school and looking for financial aid information, I recommend you check out : Culinary Grants & Scholarships

scholarships and grants 2014

Applying for Grants

It isn’t easy to find money to pay for college, but it’s also probably not as hard as you think. As with college scholarships, grants are free money you won’t need to pay back, so why wouldn’t you try to find as many as you qualify for as you can? Almost everyone will find themselves eligible for grant funding, so it’s up to you to do your research so that you know exactly how much funding you’re eligible for and are able to keep your student loan debt at a manageable level post-graduation. Grants will range from a couple hundred dollars to a free ride at some institutions, so don’t miss a good opportunity to fund your college education by skipping out on applying for grants.

Know the Basics

The first step in applying for most grants, particularly federally-funded awards, is filling out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. That application will come up with your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), which will determine what the government expects you to come up with as far as financing your education. The results of your FAFSA, which you’ll see on the Student Aid Report (SAR) sent to you, will give you a better idea of grants you could receive from the government, the state, and your intended college. Some state-sponsored or college-based grants will require additional applications for their grant funding, as many have academic requirements outside of any need-based qualifications. Pay attention to the details of each award you’re going for so that you don’t submit an incomplete application, as grant funding waits for no one. Funding levels of federal grants in particularly change annually, so if you apply after the deadline or even later than the early birds who file their financial aid applications as soon as they’re available, you could be out of luck.

Am I eligible?

The neediest students will be eligible for the most grant funding on the federal level. Federal Pell Grant recipients, for example, take into account both the student’s and that student’s parents’ income levels. Most Pell grant money goes to students with a total family income below $20,000. Those found eligible for Pell Grants may also find themselves eligible for other grants, including the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) program, Academic Competitiveness Grant and the National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grant. Most colleges will also have a pool of funding available to assist low-income students in attending their school.
While the vast majority of grants are need-based, some may pay more attention to specific student characteristics over others. The most popular grants are broken down by the federal, state and college level, but many private organizations and local groups have grant funds set up to help you get to college. Students going into fields where there is a high need for new graduates may also find a plethora of options for grant funding. Many states offer grants to students based on specific criteria, such as whether the student is a minority or planning to pursue a particular high need field, especially if that state is lacking new recruits in certain areas, such as education or nursing. Grants are very specific, so don’t waste time applying for awards you don’t qualify for when you could be finding grants specific to you. Be sure to read the fine print, as well. Some grants will be awarded with the understanding that you’ll do something for whoever is awarding the funding, such as spending several years teaching in a high-needs school district. Doing some research will allow you to maximize your chances of not only landing more free money, but learning about all the possibilities out there to do so.

How does a scholarship affect my other student aid?

A scholarship will affect your other student aid because all your student aid added together can’t be more than your cost of attendance at your college or career school.

So, you’ll need to let your school know if you’ve been awarded a scholarship so that the financial aid office can subtract that amount from your cost of attendance (and from certain other aid, such as loans, that you might have been offered). Then, any amount left can be covered by other financial aid for which you’re eligible. Questions? Ask your financial aid office.
